Tiadaghton Elm Canoe & Kayak Classic
The Tiadaghton Elm Canoe & Kayak Classic is an event that started in 1964. In the early years, the race course started on Pine Creek and ended at the bridge in Jersey Shore. Low water conditions on Pine Creek in recent years caused race organizers to hold the race in various locations on or near Pine Creek. In recent years, the event is held on a 5.5 mile loop course starting at the Susquehanna River access in McElhattan. The loop format and shorter course allows for two sets of races – one starting in the morning and the other starting at noon. A professional two-person category offers prize money instead of trophies. Many of these same competitors race in the one-person event starting at noon. This series of professional races has become the largest race of its kind in the eastern US.
